Chiropractic for Me

What is Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a primary healthcare profession focused on your health, movement and wellbeing. Chiropractors are highly trained specialists in the spine and neuro-musculoskeletal system — the complex relationship between your joints, muscles, nerves and overall health.

Rather than using medicines or surgery, chiropractors take a gentle, hands-on approach to diagnosing and treating a wide range of conditions. A typical package of care may include spinal and joint adjustments, soft tissue treatment, and tailored advice on exercise, posture, diet and lifestyle. Some chiropractors also offer rehabilitation programmes.

Chiropractic care isn't just for when something goes wrong. Many people use it regularly to maintain good posture, support their general health and improve performance — whether they're a competitive athlete or simply want to stay active and comfortable as they get older.

What Can Chiropractic Help With

Patients receiving chiropractic care commonly report benefits for conditions including back pain, sciatica, neck pain, headaches and migraines, shoulder pain, joint pain, muscle spasms, minor sports injuries, plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, rotator cuff problems, and hip and knee pain associated with osteoarthritis. Chiropractors can also help with generalised aches and pains, cramp, and difficulty relaxing.

If your chiropractor feels that your condition needs further investigation or would be better treated elsewhere, they will work with your GP or other healthcare providers to arrange an appropriate referral — always with your permission.

Qualifications & Regulation

Chiropractors in the UK complete a four to five year Integrated Masters degree in Chiropractic (MChiro) and are statutorily regulated by the General Chiropractic Council (GCC). You can be confident that any GCC-registered chiropractor has met rigorous standards of education, safety and professional practice.

The McTimoney Approach

The McTimoney approach to chiropractic was developed over 50 years ago by the late John McTimoney and is taught exclusively at the McTimoney College of Chiropractic in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. It is widely recognised for its precise, whole-body approach to care.

The gentle nature of McTimoney chiropractic makes it suitable for people at every stage of life, from babies and children through to older adults. Many McTimoney chiropractors go on to develop specialist interests in areas such as pregnancy, paediatrics, sports or later-life care — use the search tool on this site to find a chiropractor near you.

Many graduates of the McTimoney College go on to develop special interests and attend further postgraduate training, so by using the search facility on this site, you can find a chiropractor near you who focuses on pregnancy, paediatric, sports or later life chiropractic care.
